Trump Makes Bold Picks for EPA, Homeland Security

President-elect Trump is showing more strong leadership in picking the two gentlemen who will head up the Department of Homeland Security and the Environmental Protection Agency.

We will now start to have real homeland security, while EPA will be prevented from issuing more obstructionist rules and regulations that are strangling the American economy, while existing rules will be rolled back. The Washington Times ( reports:

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to name Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, according to multiple reports. The pick of Mr. Pruitt, who has sued the EPA multiple times to challenge President Obama’s regulatory agenda, is guaranteed to thrill conservatives who think the agency has overstepped its authority.

…Mr. Pruitt was elected Oklahoma’s attorney general in November 2010 and has focused on restoring more regulatory oversight to states and limiting federal regulations. His lawsuits against the EPA included pending litigation to topple the agency’s Clean Power Plan, which is the centerpiece of Mr. Obama’s climate change strategy.

Meanwhile reports:

Pruitt, 48, has been a reliable booster of the fossil fuel industry and a critic of what he derides as the EPA’s “activist agenda.” Representing his state as attorney general since 2011, Pruitt has repeatedly sued the EPA to roll back environmental regulations and other health protections. He joined with other Republican attorneys general in opposing the Clean Power Plan, which seeks to limit planet-warming carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants. Pruitt has argued that curbing carbon emissions would trample the sovereignty of state governments, drive up electricity rates, threaten the reliability of the nation’s power grid and “create economic havoc.”

His installment, if confirmed, would mark a significant break with the current EPA approach toward global warming.

In an opinion article published earlier this year by National Review, Pruitt suggested the debate over global warming “is far from settled” and claimed “scientists continue to disagree about the degree and extent of global warming and its connection to the actions of mankind.”

He also filed court briefs in support of the Keystone XL Pipeline project blocked by the Obama administration, which would have run through his state. And Pruitt sued the EPA over the agency’s recent expansion of water bodies regulated under the federal Clean Water Act.

So finally we will not have a federal EPA promoting the fake theory of ’global warming’ through “junk science” and blocking every type of development on the basis of ‘warming’.

Pruitt also favors the oil and natural gas industries which are providing us with the energy that our economy needs. “Green” energy, on the other hand, does not work, which is why it must be heavily subsidized. Here is how to prove that wind power is fake – take a sailing ship next time you go to Europe. It will require a month to get there and you will find out exactly how much ‘free’ energy there really is in the wind.

Pruitt also will halt the EPA shutdown of efficient coal-fired power plants. This action will help to preserve thousands of coal-mining jobs, which Trump promised to do if elected. Let us hope that EPA now re-opens plants that have been shut down under Obama’s radical “green” agenda.

We also should look at an issue in Oklahoma that shows the lengths to which the “greenies” will go to block our economy, and what animates a guy like Pruitt.

Oklahoma has had many small earthquakes in the past few years and the “greenies” are blaming the quakes on “fracking” for oil and natural gas. This is utterly preposterous.

“Fracking” uses explosives to ‘fracture’ a few tons of rock at the bottom of oil well drilling holes. This allows the more efficient extraction of oil from a wider area than you would get without the fracturing. “Fracking” significantly reduces the number of oil wells and natural gas wells that need to be drilled. This efficiency is a big plus for the environment.

Earthquakes are caused by a sudden shifting of slow-moving geological ‘plates’ of underground rock covering hundreds or thousands of square miles and weighing trillions of tons. There is no possible way that the miniscule amount of rock displaced in “fracking” could cause earthquakes.

This crusade against “fracking” is just more ‘junk science’ promoted by the envLIARmentalists to halt oil and natural gas development. “Fracking” has been practiced in the United States since the 1950s, with more than 1 million “fracking” wells drilled. Yet the earthquakes in Oklahoma are recent.

It is also important to remember that earthquakes occur in many places where there is no fracking, while most places where there is lots of fracking have no earthquakes whatsoever. So there is no evidence or proof to link earthquakes to fracking, but just a casual anecdotal association that the “greenies” are exploiting to try and stop “fracking”.

Now here is the Washington Post reporting ( about president-elect Trump’s choice to head up the Department of Homeland Security(DHS):

President-elect Donald Trump has chosen retired Marine Gen. John F. Kelly to run the Department of Homeland Security, turning to a blunt-spoken border security hawk who clashed with the Obama administration over women in combat and plans to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to people familiar with the decision.

Kelly, who retired in February as chief of U.S. Southern Command, would inherit a massive and often troubled department responsible for overseeing perhaps the most controversial part of Trump’s agenda: his proposed crackdown on illegal immigration. DHS is the third-largest Cabinet department, with more than 240,000 employees who do everything from fight terrorism to protect the president and enforce immigration laws.

Kelly, 66, is a widely respected military officer who served for more than 40 years, and he is not expected to face difficulty winning Senate confirmation. Trump’s team was drawn to him because of his Southwest border expertise, people familiar with the transition said. Like the president-elect, Kelly has sounded the alarm about drugs, terrorism and other cross-border threats he sees as emanating from Mexico and Central and South America.

…Known inside the Pentagon as a thoughtful man who continued serving his country even after his son was killed in combat, Kelly has talked in stark terms — much like Trump — about the threats America faces in the Middle East and beyond. In speeches, he has expressed frustration with what he calls the “bureaucrats” in Washington, and he described the military’s counterterrorism operations abroad as a war against a “savage” enemy who would gladly launch more deadly attacks.

This is another home run for Trump. Kelly said this about terrorists: “I don’t know why they hate us, and I frankly don’t care, but they do hate us and are driven irrationally to our destruction.”

This is fantastic. Hooray for Kelly. This is the complete opposite of the liberal mindset that we must “understand” evil people precisely as they seek to destroy us. We cannot do that. We must destroy them first.

Now contrast Kelly’s comment with a DHS report in the early days of the Obama administration in Spring 2009 which said that we must be vigilant about the terror threat from white people with third-party and anti-abortion bumper stickers. Or the way that Obama called the terrorist attack on Fort Hood “workplace violence”. This is ludicrous beyond belief.

Kelly’s appointment means that we are going to start to act proactively against people threatening us within our nation and from outside of the US, including restricting immigration from Muslim nations. Along with strong military action promised by Trump to smash the ISIS terrorists in the Middle East, we finally will indeed have some “homeland security”.
