Remember when the ‘Mother of All Bombs’ was introduced in a test blast by the US military in 2003? But then we never heard anything more about it?
Well, we just heard about it again. President Trump ordered MOAB dropped on terrorist enclaves in a remote part of Afghanistan on April 13, and you can bet that the whole terror world is buzzing about it. Wikipedia describes the bomb like this:
The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) is a large-yield conventional (non-nuclear) bomb, developed for the United States military by Albert L. Weimorts, Jr. of the Air Force Research Laboratory. At the time of development, it was touted as the most powerful non-nuclear weapon ever designed. The bomb was designed to be delivered by a C-130 Hercules, primarily the MC-130E Combat Talon I or MC-130H Combat Talon Ii variants.
So there you go. President Trump hit them so hard that their ears are ringing 1,000 miles away. And this is going to continue. In fact Trump dropped as many bombs on terrorists in two nights as Obama did in a year, and that was before MOAB. MSN.com reports:
Aerial footage shows the moment the “mother of all bombs” hit an ISIS stronghold in Afghanistan and wiped out dozens of militants.
The bomb is seen falling from a plane towards a network of caves and tunnels that the terror group had used during fierce battles with Afghan and US forces.
The force of the blast is evident as the bomb hits its target in the mountainous area and a massive mushroom cloud of dark smoke billows into the sky in the Achin district of Nangarhar province.
A spokesman for the Nangarhar governor and a local police commander later said the bombing had killed 82 ISIS members.
The video of the bomb being dropped on the ISIS base was posted on Twitter by US Forces Afghanistan.
The massive GBU-43 bomb that was dropped on Thursday night was the largest non-nuclear bomb the US has ever used in combat.
The 21,600lb (9,797kg) device, which has 11 tons of explosives, was dropped from a MC-130 aircraft in the Achin district of Nangarhar province, near the border with Pakistan.
People who live near the ISIS camp that was targeted have heard explosions before, but they described the force of “mother of all bombs” as unprecedented. Achin District Governor Esmail Shinwari said: “The explosion was the biggest I have ever seen. Towering flames engulfed the area.”
The cloud of smoke could be seen for miles and residents who were home at the time said their windows were blown out.
OK, this is real war and we now have a real Commander in Chief. President Trump is attacking the terrorists using massive force. On the other hand Obama let the terrorists roam free. He could have taken them out easily but did not because Obama thinks that America and ‘global warming’ are the real threats to the world. This is precisely why terrorism flourished in the last 8 years.
Warfare is as much psychological as it is tactical. And you can rest assured that terrorists around the globe are suddenly thinking a whole new way about the US military after 8 years of patty-cake under Obama.
They now are seeing Trump as a “mad man” who will kill them all, which is just what we want. But Trump is no “mad man”. He is brilliant. He is changing the psychology in the War on Terror. And you can also bet that president Trump is sending a message to North Korea and to other countries not only with MOAB but with the recent strike on Syrian airfields.
It’s about time. The United States has massive military might but we either do not use it (Obama) or used it wrongly (Iraq war).
Now Trump is showing muscle. Congratulations president Trump. Good show. And we can also be comforted in the fact that this bombing may be seen as a response to the ISIS attacks on Christians in Egypt.
Anti-Trumpers will say that the president is a ‘cowboy’ who is in love with the power that he now has, and that he is going to start World War III.
No, folks, World War III started on September 11, 2001, and America has been losing ever since. Trump now is attacking radical Islamists directly while assuring us that he has no intention of getting involved in a ground war in Syria or anywhere else.
There has long been a thesis that the United States cannot bomb its way to military victory, particularly against terrorists. This is false. Bombing, which results in zero US casualties, can be very effective, particularly with weapons like MOAB and like cruise missiles, which can be accurately targeted from hundreds of miles away.
The cruise missile strike on the Syrian airfield hit 59 out of 60 targets perfectly. This is a technological miracle that we should be taking full advantage of in the war on Muslims terrorists, which Trump appropriately called “sneaky, dirty rats”.
Let us hope that president Trump escalates this War on Terror using weapons that are relatively inexpensive on scattered targets like terror camps. Nikitas3.com suggested after the Syrian strike that president Trump would do well hitting 59 separate terror training camps.
Perhaps he will. We may well see that on a routine basis. Cruise missiles are cheap – about $1 million each – and very effective compared to direct military action with soldiers on the ground.
