Melania Trump is certainly warming to her role as First Lady. It seemed that she was not too thrilled at first that president Trump had been elected, but now let us just say that she is playing her new role very well.
She is a superstar on her first foreign trip. The global media is admiring her for her poise and beauty, and she truly is a knockout. Coming after the ABF (Angry Black Female) Michelle Obama, Melania is a delight. There has never been a First Lady quite like her.
Now we are hearing about Melania’s grace on her trip with the president. Joel Pollak on Breitbart.com reports:
First Lady Melania Trump has won rave reviews from the foreign press — and even the American press — as she accompanies President Donald Trump on his first foreign trip.
The visit, which has taken President Trump to Saudi Arabia and Israel thus far, and which will conclude with a stop at the Vatican on Tuesday, is the first foreign trip of the administration. It is also one of the first major public events for the First Lady, who has kept a low profile thus far.
Yet she made her mark immediately in Saudi Arabia, descending Air Force One in a flowing black pantsuit and golden belt that was hailed by the local press as “classy and conservative,” even though both she and Ivanka Trump declined to cover their faces in deference to local custom.
The Los Angeles Times noted Melania Trump’s “newsmaking style,” quoting a local television host who described her outfit as a “a really considerate gesture.”
Even the British press was impressed, gushing later in the day: “Melania Trump dazzles in purple Reem Acra gown for first evening in Saudi Arabia.”
She also impressed observers in Israel with her choice of outfit: a crisp white jacket and skirt, in deference to the main color in the Israeli flag, as well as to the color of peace.
More than her sartorial savvy, however, what was most impressive was the First Lady’s gesture of holding the hand of Israel’s First Lady, Nechama Rivlin, who carries an oxygen tank due to a respiratory illness. The image of the tall Mrs. Trump guiding the congenial but frail Mrs. Rivlin went beyond normal diplomatic protocol and presented an image of kindness.
At the Western Wall, Mrs. Trump acknowledged the Orthodox Jewish custom of separating the sexes during prayer by visiting the women’s side of the plaza. However, as in Saudi Arabia, she kept her hair uncovered (though Jewish women are not required to cover their hair during prayer, or before marriage).
She also visited the Hadassah Medical Center Ein Kerem later in the day with Sara Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister’s wife. The hospital treats both Jews and Arabs, and features both Jewish and Arab staff.
It also was reported that Sarah Netanyahu told Mrs. Trump that “… in Israel all the people like us (the Netanyahus). The media hate us but the people love us… like you.”
Meanwhile president Trump continues to dominate this trip masterfully. Even the Washington Post’s David Igantius said that Trump’s message about terrorism was “powerful”, which it was. Compared to Obama’s do-nothing foreign trips when he even criticized America and you have the difference between night and day.
Egyptian president Abdel Fattah al-Sisi even said to president Trump through a translator, “Mr. President, let me express our appreciation and respect. Let me say that you have a unique personality that is capable of doing the impossible.”
Wow. The Trumps are on fire. This is truly a transformational president. He is going to change the world over the next 7 years and 8 months. Now here is a second editorial:
Bicyclists are the Newest Leftist Bullies
In case you have not noticed there is yet another new group of liberal bullies emerging on the Democrat left – bicyclists.
They have been around for decades, but you may notice them ramping up their activities and “demands” in the past few years.
Yes, “demands”, as all liberals offer us “demands”, for instance that your town has to paint special lanes for bicyclists, and put up special signs, and make new laws to protect bicyclists. Or that your town has to set aside an abandoned railroad line as a special, and very expensive, bike path paid for by all taxpayers but only used by a few people on bicycles.
One media crank in my town even recently repeated the canard that millennials are riding bicycles to be “green”, which is false. They are riding bicycles because they have no jobs to buy a car in the Obama economy, which president Trump is now acting to change.
These bicyclists are largely left-wingers, part of the health-fanatic movement (bicyclists, runners, backpackers, mountaineers, etc.), particularly the upper-income jerks-on-bikes (Jobbers) in their spandex suits riding their $3,000 bicycles. They block traffic and require that motorists swerve out into the other lane. They ride side-by-side as if they own the road. And if they cause car accidents they don’t care.
Yet they themselves often are injured or killed riding bikes. Just in the past two years I know personally of two bicyclists who were killed and several more injured, including myself, which is why I gave up my bicycle after a short period of riding. Because bicycles are downright dangerous.
Bicyclists now have friends in the media who promote their cause, since their cause is to make “demands” on the rest of us who are busy going about our daily lives and have to put up with these Jobbers constantly blocking the roads.
And I am not talking about the kid riding his bike to the baseball game. I am talking about these people who have suddenly found a new way to exhibit their arrogance… on two wheels. They are urged to become vocal and confrontational, as we have seen with every liberal group (disabled, black, gay, sex changer, feminist, etc.).
Yet they themselves often break the law. A few years ago I came just inches from being run down by a bicyclist who was running high speed through a red light.
Two years ago I almost crashed my car because I came around a bend and a bicyclist was on the road, and I had to swerve to avoid him. I almost hit the car next to me, and I am absolutely positive that that bicyclist would never, ever take responsibility if I had had an accident. Because these bicyclists think that it is the bicyclist who has the right of way, just like disabled people claim that they have every right, or “minorities” have all the rights that the rest of us don’t.
The worst ones are these Jobbers in the spandex racing suits with their expensive bikes. These people are typical liberal narcissists. They love showing off their physiques, as if on stage. “Look at me, man! I am soooooo healthy!”And if you cross them in any way they threaten and harass you.
I honked my horn at one of them for straying too far out into the road, and he yelled threateningly at me, and gave me an obscene gesture. You will get this every time, even when they cause the problem, which is every time.
But I recommend to all motorists to give these Jobbers the horn and give it loud and long when they are out in the road. That is the only thing they understand. The road is for motorists. These bicyclists are guests on our highways. They need to learn that.
Here is information from the Pedestrian and Bicycle Information Center (PBIC):
In 2015, 818 people lost their lives in bicycle/motor vehicle crashes, more than two people every day of the year in the U.S. This represents a 6 percent increase in bicyclist fatalities since 2006 and a 12.2 percent increase from the previous year (2014).
These numbers represent just over two percent of the total number of people killed and injured in traffic crashes in 2015.
The number of estimated bicyclist injuries dropped to 45,000 in 2015, down from 50,000 in 2014. However, like pedestrian injury estimates, research into hospital records shows that only a fraction of bicycle crashes causing injury are ever recorded by the police, possibly as low as ten percent.
Bicyclist deaths in 2006: 732
Bicyclist deaths in 2015: 726
Change in bicyclist fatalities between 2006 and 2015: 6 percent increase
Estimated bicyclist injuries in 2006: 44,000
Estimated bicyclist injuries in 2015: 45,000
Change in estimated bicyclist injuries between 2006 and 2015: 2.3 percent increase
The total cost of bicyclist injury and death is over $4 billion per year.
Notice that figure, that only 10% of injuries may be being reported. Then consider how few miles bicyclists really travel and how few people really ride bikes and then the number of deaths and injuries per mile, and as a percentage of the population, is proportionately sky-high.
Under Six Most Frequent Causes of Injury reported by PBIC it is Hit by car 29%, Fell 17%, Roadway/walkway not in good repair 13%, Rider error/not paying attention 13%, Crashed/collision 7%, Dog ran out 4%.
None of these would have happened when walking or driving a car. In short, bicycling is dangerous. But the bicyclists only tell us how wonderful it is, and that bicycling would be 100% safe if the rest of us only would drive better, maintain the roads, leash the dogs, etc., i.e., the danger is always someone else’s fault, i.e., they are liberals.
