Fox News reports:
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., announced Wednesday that he is not seeking re-election in November — a move that comes as the GOP girds for a tough fight to keep control of the House.
Ryan told senior GOP members that he would retire in January after serving out his full term, his office said in a statement.
This is no surprise. Just when president Trump really needs to keep control of the House, Ryan is quitting. This is your classic RINO Republican, i.e., a Washington Swamp Dweller in disguise who has done almost everything that he can to keep the Swamp from being drained.
Nikitas3.com wrote last year that if I lived in Wisconsin that I would vote for a Democrat just to get rid of Ryan. Now I could vote Republican again.
Good riddance to Paul Ryan. He has obstructed the conservative cause and helped the Trump Haters and the Democrats at almost every turn.
Amazon, Facebook Face Withering Scrutiny
All of the internet giants are now under significant scrutiny. Individuals, political groups and even government officials are viewing Facebook, Amazon, Google, Twitter, Instagram and now YouTube as the arrogant, censoring, left-wing monoliths that they are.
The recent shooting at the YouTube headquarters amplifies the point; this act even intensifies the “war” mentality against these firms. Meanwhile Mark Zuckerberg has been hauled before Congress to testify about Facebook data-gathering practices, censorship, etc.
The black female pro-Trump duo Diamond & Silk has been booted off of Facebook after being deemed… get this… “unsafe to the community…” This is outrageous. This is like the Soviet Union.
And no, these internet firms are not oil companies overcharging us for gasoline or carmakers selling us faulty automobiles that kill us. These are communications companies that are ostensibly offering us their services for ‘free’.
But still they are quickly falling out of public favor for selling our data, abridging our privacy, censoring some of us, spying on us, manipulating what we see and hear, etc.
In yet another major swipe at the big internet companies president Trump has slammed the internet retail giant Amazon, which is owned by anti-Trump mega-billionaire Jeff Bezos, the richest man in America. Fox News reported:
President Trump argued Monday that Amazon’s tax deal is “closing stores all over the country” — continuing his criticism of the online retail behemoth.
“Not a level playing field,” Trump also said in the tweet that again suggested Amazon has a sweetheart shipping deal with the U.S. Postal Service that “will be changed.”
“Only fools, or worse, are saying that our money losing Post Office makes money with Amazon. THEY LOSE A FORTUNE,” Trump also said in the tweet.
On Saturday, Trump argued that the online retailer’s “scam” shipping deal with the postal service is costing the agency “billions of dollars.”
“It is reported that the U.S. Post Office will lose $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon. That amounts to Billions of Dollars,” Trump said over two tweets. “If the P.O. ‘increases its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.’ This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!”
The tweets suggest Trump got his information from The New York Times. The tweet also called Washington Post “fake.” The paper, which is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, continues to be critical of Trump’s presidential campaign and administration.
The president’s tweets on Saturday also suggest Amazon is not paying its fair share of sales tax and that the Post’s “lobbying staff” has “ballooned” in efforts to keep favorable tax laws and the Postal Service deal.
Good. After decades in which our private-sector corporations have been impugned in every way possible by people on the left – often on no basis whatsoever except to criticize and harm them – we finally are seeing growing alarm about one of the most exploitative firms, Amazon, that is owned by Jeff Bezos who is on the hard political left.
Let’s face it; the internet is a mixed bag. It has given voice and boundless information to billions of people but on the other hand it has many socially destructive aspects.
The internet has done wonders for our economy in many ways but it is almost too efficient in others. Amazon, for instance, is taking business away from brick-and-mortar stores at a disturbing pace and leading to the shutdown of thousands of local businesses every year.
What should we do about Amazon? It is hard to say at this point but public pressure and political and media anger are going to force Amazon’s hand as is happening at Facebook.
Amazon is a natural outgrowth of internet efficiency and capitalist efficiency, and efficiency is a good thing. But we must not allow Amazon to exploit us, including the US Postal Service which has been suffering for decades from huge pay, benefit and pension costs and massive inefficiency.
Amazon also is famous for exploiting its own workers. Here is a brief excerpt from Business Insider summarizing stories from various sources about the awful working conditions at Amazon warehouses:
Gawker has published a brutal series of emails describing life inside Amazon’s warehouses, where temp employees toil in freezing conditions. Their rest and lunch breaks disappear because Amazon’s warehouses are so big its takes several minutes of walking to get to and from your work-station.
Pennsylvania’s Morning Call published a series of stories about Amazon warehouses that were so hot workers fainted on the job and were placed on stretchers by paramedics. (Amazon has since installed air conditioning.)
Amazon’s temp agency aggressively opposes unemployment compensation for workers who were let go because they were sick, The Morning Call reported.
Mother Jones did an in-depth piece that described how Amazon workers are fired if they burst into tears on the job. (“There’s 16 other people who want your job. Why would they keep a person who gets emotional, especially in this economy?”)
One account of being trained at an Amazon warehouse compared it to being in prison: “My initial thought was this is prison, the comparisons were obvious. I felt like asking anyone sitting by me or standing in line next to me ‘so, what are you in for?’ It would have been a completely appropriate question.”
And it’s not just the warehouses. We recently published portions of an email from an Amazon temp developer, who explained that because Amazon only seems to hire temps, the pay and the quality of work stay low.
This is an ongoing trend. We often see left-wing companies, organizations, politicians, etc. violating all liberal principles in their own operations. Here is a recent headline about ultra-liberal Tesla Motors:
Tesla Workers Claim Racial Bias and Abuse at Electric Car Factory
Here is more from Breitbart News:
Morale among employees of grocery giant Whole Foods has (plummeted) after Amazon owner Jeff Bezos bought the chain and instituted new stocking and employee management policies, a report says.
The popular Texas-based niche grocery chain was bought by Amazon last year for a hefty $13.7 billion price tag, but employees are ruing the day the online retailer made the purchase, according to Business Insider (BI).
Employees feel hard pressed by the new policies Bezos’s management team put in place at Whole Foods. The pressure put upon them by updated stocking procedures and “pop quizzes” is causing some to have “nightmares” about work.
“I wake up in the middle of the night from nightmares,” a Whole Foods staffer told BI. “The stress has created such a tense working environment. Seeing someone cry at work is becoming normal.”
Meanwhile other internet giants are facing increasing scrutiny. Buzzfeed reports about Facebook:
On June 18, 2016, one of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s most trusted lieutenants circulated an extraordinary memo weighing the costs of the company’s relentless quest for growth.
“We connect people. Period. That’s why all the work we do in growth is justified. All the questionable contact importing practices. All the subtle language that helps people stay searchable by friends. All of the work we do to bring more communication in. The work we will likely have to do in China some day. All of it,” VP Andrew “Boz” Bosworth wrote.
“So we connect more people,” he wrote in another section of the memo. “That can be bad if they make it negative. Maybe it costs someone a life by exposing someone to bullies.
“Maybe someone dies in a terrorist attack coordinated on our tools.”
The explosive internal memo is titled “The Ugly,” and has not been previously circulated outside the Silicon Valley social media giant.
No further comment is needed. This shows once again that the left-wingers in Silicon Valley are really the manipulative, biased, heartless, profit-hungry devils that these liberals claim that they see everywhere else in America.
Facebook must be regulated or broken up like Standard Oil and Bell Telephone were. It is far too powerful and corrupt. Ditto Amazon, Twitter and Google. Many powerful forces are starting to act or are thinking about acting, most importantly the government.
How about “shadow banning” (censorship) on Twitter? Breitbart News reports:
Rumours that Twitter has begun ‘shadowbanning’ politically inconvenient users have been confirmed by a source inside the company, who spoke exclusively to Breitbart Tech. His claim was corroborated by a senior editor at a major publisher.
According to the source, Twitter maintains a ‘whitelist’ of favoured Twitter accounts and a ‘blacklist’ of unfavoured accounts. Accounts on the whitelist are prioritised in search results, even if they’re not the most popular among users. Meanwhile, accounts on the blacklist have their posts hidden from both search results and other users’ timelines.
Our source was backed up by a senior editor at a major digital publisher, who told Breitbart that Twitter told him it deliberately whitelists and blacklists users. He added that he was afraid of the site’s power, noting that his tweets could disappear from users’ timelines if he got on the wrong side of the company.
The list goes on and on. Project Veritas also has exposed this practice.
