Fox News recently reported about a far-left political figure:
Democratic House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rallied an audience of supporters in Washington Thursday evening with calls to implement single-payer health care and tuition-free college – along with an appeal to stop fossil fuel production entirely.
… “There’s no debate as to whether we should continue producing fossil fuels. There’s no debate. We should not,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Every single scientific consensus points to that.”
Stop producing oil, coal and natural gas? This is the insanity of the left. These energy sources have lifted mankind out of a subsistence existence and into prosperity, better housing, better technology, better health and much longer life spans.
And no, not “every single scientific consensus points to” ending fossil fuel use. The only “consensus” that does so is that of the environmental, university and media elites like Al Gore who get wealth, power, fame and jobs through environmental extremism via taxpayer subsidies and grants, slobbering media coverage, mass donations to ‘green’ groups, public hysteria, etc.
Ocasio-Cortez is a young, left-wing intellectual who does not know anything about how our economy works or about our energy supply. She comes from New York City where they think that milk comes from the store and electricity comes from the light switch.
These people are dangerously ignorant. But that has not stopped the ‘greenies’ from demonizing our crucial energy sources. Fox News continued:
The (United Nations) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released a report earlier this week declaring that civilization only has 12 years to save the planet from “climate catastrophe.” Preventative steps include reducing coal production and bringing global net emissions close to zero by 2030.
Oh, OK, so now we have only 12 years left. This is how the ‘green’ fanatics seek to rush us into legislation to adopt their disastrous policies.
It is almost amusing – but really frightening – to read their end-of-the-world predictions from the 1970s when they forecast that we would all be dead by now including from a new Ice Age (which since has been totally reversed by the same people to ‘global warming’). Fox News continues:
However, Ocasio-Cortez’ position departs from that of some Democrats who advocate what the Obama administration termed an “all of the above” energy policy – embracing oil and natural gas production, as well as the generation of renewables like wind and solar.
“All of the above” really means that we continue massive taxpayer subsidies for inefficient ‘green’ energy sources. These subsidies should end immediately. We should use oil, coal, nuclear power and natural gas, the energy sources that actually work. Otherwise we are investing in inefficiency and incrementally gutting our future energy supply. We already have done so. Fox News reports:
America’s natural gas production has surged in recent years, fueled in part by the fracking boom that has produced thousands of jobs and billions in revenue.
‘Fracking’ (fracturing of underground rock in oil and natural gas drilling operations) is hugely efficient; it opens up the well to a flow of oil and gas from a wider area. That is why ‘greenies’ want to stop ‘fracking’ since it is producing large amounts of oil and gas with much less work and many fewer wells than was previously required, which obviously is good for the environment.
This frightens the ‘greenies’ since it debunks their myth that the world is running out of oil as “fracking” increases the global supply by leaps and bounds.
It is estimated that the world has consumed 1.1 trillion barrels of oil since the first modern-day well was drilled in Pennsylvania in 1859. It is also estimated that there are up to 16 trillion barrels of known global reserves.
But Nikitas3.com believes that the world has virtually unlimited oil, natural gas and coal supplies, that most of the world is unexplored or underexplored, and that we should continue to use these sources as needed to power the global economy. Oil and gas in particular are becoming easier and easier to locate and extract.
As an example Israel discovered just a few years ago that it may have as much oil as Saudi Arabia in underground shale deposits that were not even known about 10 years ago. The US has an estimated 2 trillion barrels in oil shale. Canada has an estimated 2 trillion barrels in its Alberta oil sands.
And these are just projections, which are often low. The Prudhoe Bay oilfield in Northern Alaska was estimated at 1 billion barrels when it was first discovered in the 1960s but has pumped 18 billion barrels since then.
One source that has not been tapped is methane hydrates. These are ice chunks that are scattered by the billions across the bottoms of the deep oceans – more than half of the earth’s surface – that have methane gas trapped in them that has leaked out of the earth’s crust.
Some estimates say that the world’s methane hydrate supply could be hundreds or thousands of times more than all of the land-based natural gas supplies that man has located and used so far. Naturally ‘greenies’ want to prevent us from picking these ice chunks off of the ocean floor.
At the same time environmentalists themselves are squandering our existing energy supply.
Environmentalists love to tell us all to use less oil while they themselves use the most energy of all, like the ‘green’ Hollywood goons who fly around on their private jets.
Thus if ‘greenies’ and their hundreds of millions of political friends around the world would lead by example and cut their own energy use significantly we would see vastly lower global energy consumption and lower prices for the rest of us. And then the rest of us could follow their example if we chose to.
But don’t expect them to cut their own energy consumption. Who could forget Hollywood’s #1 ‘greenie’ Leonardo Di Caprio flying in his private jet from France to New York just to receive an environmental award(!) and then flying immediately back to France, all in less than a day.
That was probably the most egregious use of energy ever by one person.
Does Di Caprio care? Of course not. He is an arrogant environmentalist. Fox News reports:
But fracking remains controversial for its environmental side effects, and Ocasio-Cortez’ “Green New Deal” envisions turning the renewable energy investment into a jobs engine – in the spirit of FDR’s New Deal.
OK, first of all FDR’s New Deal never worked. Even FDR’s Treasury secretary admitted that it didn’t work. Its alleged success is only a socialist myth. Unemployment was just as high after six years of FDR than when he entered the White House in 1933.
Second, ‘fracking’ is not controversial… except to ‘greenies’. It is massively efficient. Third, renewable energy is a fraud. It is grossly expensive and inefficient. Without gigantic taxpayer subsidies it would never exist.
Meanwhile coal, oil and natural gas have powered the global economy for centuries with no government subsidies while producing millions of great jobs in extraction, refining and distribution; paying tens of trillions of dollars in taxes and royalties to governments; and creating hundreds of trillions in economic growth for the people of the world.
