President Trump Brings the Hammer Down on Immigration

President Trump intends to truly reform our immigration system with tough new measures.

In case you do not know, even legal immigration into the US was eliminated between 1924 and 1965. In the 1950s more than 1 million Mexicans were forcibly returned to Mexico under something informally called Operation Wetback. It was very controversial at the time but it still was implemented.

In 1965 America was opened to a flood of new immigrants under legislation from … guess who … Democrat US senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts along with another super-liberal Democrat senator Philip Hart of Michigan.

This legislation not only re-started legal immigration, which is certainly acceptable since we can keep track of who is coming in, but it ushered in a wave of illegal immigration that has been building ever since.

Not all illegal immigration today comes over the Mexican border. It is estimated by some studies that almost half of illegal immigrants come by air from all over the world on legal visitor visas but never go back home and never fear being caught and sent back.

Thus an illegal alien from Africa can send a relative in Africa a check for a round-trip flight, often with welfare money. The African just needs to get a visa to visit the US, and then is home free – in the United States, that is.

One of these illegals was Obama’s aunt who flew to the US in 2000 “to accompany her son to college”, according to Wikipedia.

She overstayed her visa and applied for asylum in 2002. She was ordered back to Kenya in 2004. Telegraph UK reported on April 1, 2009, less than three months after Obama had taken office and after his aunt had been living on welfare during her entire stay in the US:

Zeituni Onyango had an initial appearance in a US Immigration Court in Boston yesterday. At the brief hearing, a judge set her case to be heard on Feb 4, 2010.

Mrs Onyango, who is the half sister of the President’s late father, was ordered to be deported in 2004 but has continued to live in public housing in Boston.

Her claim to remain in the US is likely to centre on the argument that her safety would be in danger in Kenya, either because of political violence or her new found celebrity.

She died April 7, 2014… in Boston. So the system obviously is very broken.

In 1986, under the so-called Simpson-Mazzoli bill signed by Republican president Ronald Reagan (The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 ) the United States was supposed to grant amnesty to 3 million illegals and then seal the border.

Well, you know the drill. The amnesty was granted but the border remained open and we have seen the result, with anywhere from 12 million to 25 million illegals in the US today.

This is why we need The Wall on the border. It will stop illegal “walk-in” immigration. “Fly-in” illegal immigration needs to be addressed as well with strict controls on visas.

Things are happening, however. Congress is possibly going to fully fund The Wall after the mid-term elections, but The Wall already is being built in places. It is being reported that president Trump may simply take the funds out of the military budget since the Wall is a national security issue. Then Breitbart News reports:

Reports on Monday indicate that President Donald Trump will order an expansion of the U.S. military deployment to the U.S. southwest border. The order is expected to increase the number of troops being deployed from 800 to 5,000.

This is intended to send a message to the “caravan” making its way north through Mexico. Good. originally wanted to see 10,000 troops. But this number is a good start and it may go up. Go Trump!

Update: The total may rise to 15,000 troops. Trainloads of military gear have been spotted heading for the border.

Under Obama or Hillary this “caravan” would simply have been allowed to “walk in” over the border. But no more. Those days are over as long as we have a Republican president. If we get a Democrat in the White House we will get millions of illegals in the first year of the Democrat presidency, just for starters.

It gets better. The president says that he will put “caravan” members in tents on the border until they can be deported. CNS News reported:

The administration plans to “build tent cities” to accommodate any of the Central American “caravan” migrants who arrive at the border and seek asylum, President Trump said Monday.

… Unlike the previously-implemented “catch and release” policy, he said, “we’re catching, we’re not releasing.’

Asked by Ingraham about those who might want to apply for asylum in the U.S., Trump said “we’re going to hold them until such time as their trial takes place.”

“Where?” asked Ingraham. “We have the facilities?”

“We’re going to put up— we’re going to build tent cities,” he replied. “We’re going to put tents up all over the place. We’re not going to build structures and spend all of this, you know, hundreds of millions of dollars. We’re going to have tents – they’re going to be very nice – and they’re going to wait, and if they don’t get asylum, they get out.”

This is going to discourage many of these “caravan” members. They were expecting to waltz into America and be released, never to face a judge again. It gets better. Fox News reported president Trump saying:

“Anybody throwing stones, rocks, like they did to Mexico and the Mexican military, Mexican police, where they badly hurt police and soldiers of Mexico, we will consider that a firearm.” Trump said. “We will consider that the maximum we can consider that, because they’re throwing rocks viciously and violently. …. We’re not going to put up with that. They want to throw rocks at our military, our military fights back. I told them to consider it a rifle. When they throw rocks, like they did at the Mexico military and police, I said, consider it a rifle.”

Asked by a reporter to clarify if U.S. troops might fire on the caravan, Trump responded, “I hope not, I hope not — but it’s the military.” It gets better. Fox News reported:

President Trump said in a newly released interview he plans to sign an executive order ending so-called “birthright citizenship” for babies of non-citizens born on U.S. soil — a move that would mark a major overhaul of immigration policy and trigger an almost-certain legal battle.

Birthright citizenship allows any baby born on U.S. soil to automatically be a U.S. citizen.

The policy, which stems from a disputed but long-recognized interpretation of the 14th Amendment, has given rise to what Trump considers abuse of the immigration system. Trump told (a news interviewer) that the U.S. is the only country in the world “where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits.”

Despite Trump’s claim, the U.S. is not the only nation to have birthright citizenship, but the policy is rare outside of the Americas. Trump called birthright citizenship “ridiculous” and said that “it has to end.”

It’s about time. Nations like New Zealand, Ireland, France, India, Portugal and Britain have ended birthright citizenship.

The 14th Amendment to the US Constitution has nothing to do with illegal aliens; it has only been stretched and twisted by Democrats to cover illegals. It obviously was designed to address citizenship for slaves after the Civil War. It was passed by Congress in 1866, one year after the Civil War ended, and ratified in 1868. It says:

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.

Note that it says “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof…”

This referred to the slaves who were freed under the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Illegal aliens are not legally under the jurisdiction of the United States; they are subject to the jurisdiction of the nation from which they came.

This Amendment also was intended to prevent ambassadors and other visitors or officials from foreign nations from claiming that their children would be US citizens if born here. Fox News reports:

Under current policy, anyone born in the U.S. – regardless of whether they are delivered by a non-citizen or undocumented immigrant – is considered a citizen. The interpretation has been blamed for so-called ‘birth tourism’ and chain migration.

This is how Democrats have undermined and twisted the Constitution. Now that president Trump is making it an issue, we all suddenly know what is behind “birthright citizenship”, and it is all false.

President Trump has no need to repeal the 14th Amendment or pass a new amendment. He needs to enforce the Amendment as written.

The people who wrote and amended the US Constitution were very smart. They knew what they were doing. That is why the Constitution is the greatest governing document in the world today.
