Congratulations to Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith, the sitting US senator from Mississippi who won a November 27 runoff election.
Hyde-Smith was appointed to the seat on April 2, 2018 after sitting Republican senator Thad Cochran retired due to health problems. She formerly was Mississippi commissioner of agriculture and commerce.
Hyde-Smith then ran in a November 6 ‘special’ mid-term election to fill the Cochran seat until 2020 when Cochran would have been up for re-election. But she did not get 50% of the vote as required under Mississippi law since a conservative candidate took almost 19% of the vote while the Democrat got 40%. So there was a runoff election on November 27 which Hyde-Smith won by 11 points over the Democrat.
President Trump held two rallies for Hyde-Smith and burnished his image as a winner. Thus president Trump has done extremely well in terms of the US Senate in the mid-term elections. In the coming legislative session Republicans will hold 53 Senate seats to just 47 for Democrats/Independents.
This is the story that the Fake News media won’t report. They focus on the Democrat takeover of the House but they ignore the great job that Trump did in keeping the Senate in Republican hands by actively campaigning for many candidates. This should be very disconcerting for Democrats heading into 2020.
Republicans actually gained two Senate seats in the recent elections. On the other hand, in the 2010 mid-terms – the first after Obama was elected – Democrats lost 6 Senate seats. In the 1994 mid-terms, the first after Bill Clinton was elected, Democrats lost 8 seats. In the 2002 mid-terms, the first after George W. Bush was elected, Republicans lost 6 seats.
This 53-47 Republican margin means that Trump nominees requiring Senate confirmation will sail through. This is certainly devastating for Democrats.
And if 85-year-old Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg retires after her recent fall and broken ribs and her many other serious health problems, Trump will be able to further cement conservative power on the Court for decades to come. This is what Democrats fear most.
Trump Fearlessly Takes on Mueller
President Trump has no fear of the Mueller investigation. He knows that he is innocent and is not afraid to say it.
He is being outspoken in calling it a “witch hunt” and every other name in the book. This is not what a guilty person would do. A guilty person would lay low and do everything possible not to provoke or taunt the prosecutor.
The Hill website reported on November 28:
President Trump on Wednesday morning shared an image calling for his opponents to face trial for “treason,” with many of them behind bars.
The image, which the president retweeted from a pro-Trump Twitter account, depicts a host of figures Trump has criticized, including former President Obama, 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, special counsel Robert Mueller, former FBI Director James Comey and former President Bill Clinton.
“Now that Russia collusion is a proven lie, when do the trials for treason begin?” the caption on the photo reads.
… The retweet comes as reports emerge that Mueller’s team is working on their final report about its investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Trump on Monday lashed out at Mueller as a “conflicted prosecutor gone rogue” …
In a series of tweets, Trump accused Mueller of causing “tremendous” damage to the nation’s criminal justice system and “only looking at one side” in his investigation.
This is powerful stuff from a powerful president; Trump is continuing to go on offense. Democrats expected him to roll over and die from their non-stop assaults on his character, including from Mueller, but they totally underestimated Trump.
It gets better. The Hill reported in a separate story:
President Trump believes that his long list of achievements in office make him “far greater than Ronald Reagan.”
In a new book out Tuesday about his “enemies,” the president said that while he feels “I blow Ronald Reagan away,” the “fake news” media is robbing him of bragging rights by ignoring his successes and focusing on his problems.
And even more frustrating, he told “Trump’s Enemies” authors and supporters Corey R. Lewandowski and David N. Bossie, some established conservative columnists aren’t giving him any credit.
“The amazing thing is that you have certain people who are conservative Republicans that if my name weren’t Trump, if it were John Smith, they would say I’m the greatest president in history and I blow Ronald Reagan away,” said Trump.
“All these guys that if they looked at my agenda with a different name…and he got the biggest regulation cuts in history in less than two years, judges, environmental stuff, getting out of the Paris horror show. If you said that conservative president John Smith did that, they would say he’s the greatest president. Far greater than Ronald Reagan,” added the president.
This is not just bravado. President Trump is one of the most effective presidents ever, even more effective than Reagan at the same point in their presidencies. He is a global leader too; his influence is spreading to all corners of the earth.
He moves at light speed. He is making reforms that nobody expected or thought possible, and his reforms are coming at such a quick rate that the protesters and media coverage can no longer keep up with him.
This is part of a bigger story of Trump in total control. Even the protests are dying down.
For instance, the day after Trump was elected there were protests all over the world. On January 20, 2017, Trump’s inauguration day, riots broke out in Washington. When president Trump first proposed the so-called “travel ban” protests developed all across the US, overnight.
Yet where are the protests today, for instance over sending the military to the Mexican border?
They have largely faded away. The protesters cannot keep up with president Trump. They are tired. They cannot protest every day. And by the time they protest one issue, the president and the media have moved on to another and another.
Nikitas3.com predicted this phenomenon in my Cranky Baby Theory, that eventually even a cranky baby (left-wing protesters) gets tired and falls asleep. The baby cannot wail constantly and keep his or her eyes open indefinitely.
On the other hand president Trump keeps working hard every day and producing results like the thriving economy; the re-negotiated trade deals; Korea, where the border between North and South is being demilitarized for the first time since 1953; and wiping out ISIS terrorists.
If Obama had achieved any of these goals it would be considered historic. But since president Trump has done it the media generally ignore them.
The news cycle turns over so rapidly that even the haters at CNN cannot keep up with the president. We all remember just a few months ago when Stormy Daniels was supposed to bring down Trump. Yet Stormy is gone now.
Even on Thanksgiving Day the military was busy at the border preparing for the migrant invasion. That would have made for a great anti-Trump narrative but it did not materialize. The top-tier media skunks were all on vacation.
Other anti-Trump fables have quickly disappeared into the ether. Michael Wolff wrote the book Fire and Fury which was supposed to expose the dysfunctional White House and drive Trump into oblivion.
Yet Wolff is gone. He had his 15 minutes of fame. He will never have it again.
The black White House aide Omarosa was fired and then wrote a tell-all book that was supposed to devastate Trump.
She is gone too after a few days on TV. Even liberal media darling Bob Woodward wrote a book ripping Trump that disappeared from the headlines after a brief period.
