Liberal Guvs Turn Conservative?/ Supreme Court Remains Liberal?

The two most liberal governors in the US are Democrats Gavin Newsom of California and Andrew Cuomo of New York state.

Newsom, the former mayor of San Francisco, was just elected in November 2018 and Cuomo was re-elected to a third term in November 2018. He was first elected in 2010.

They are both staunch, even militant, left-wing Democrats. Yet two cases show that even these radicals may finally be seeing the conservative light, however dimly and maybe only once.

Newsom recently announced that California would abandon a 520-mile high-speed passenger train project designed to link Los Angeles to San Francisco. It would have required its own very expensive and separate track system and stations, and special trains. The project is only about 5% complete and has consumed billions of dollars already.

This boondoggle, which was tagged as a fraud by over and over since it was proposed, went from projected costs of around $30 billion to estimates of $70 billion to $100 billion. It was years behind schedule and estimated that it could have ended up costing as much as $300 billion by the time all of the bureaucracy, delay and corruption kicked in.

Newsom said that the project “would cost too much and, respectfully, would take too long.”

Amen. said the same thing many, many times. And I also have pointed out for many years that passenger trains are an inefficient 19th century technology and that this project would ultimately waste vast amounts of energy in its operation.

In New York state Cuomo recently announced that the state already has a deficit of more than $2.5 billion in its annual budget. While this is nothing new for a Democrat, internet retailer Amazon announced around the same time that it was cancelling its plan to build a headquarters in an outlying part of New York City that would have created 25,000 jobs and tens of billions in economic benefits for the state over the next 20 years.

Amazon opted out after radical anti-business Democrats mounted an angry campaign against Amazon based on tax relief that Amazon was promised in exchange for locating in New York.

For years Cuomo and his friends like New York City mayor Bill De Blasio have taxed the rich heavily and taxed business heavily and generally talked badly about wealthy people and corporations. Cuomo’s first attorney general Eric Schneiderman, had launched multiple investigations into Wall Street figures that often seemed like a form of legal harassment. (Schneiderman resigned in May 2018 over sexual abuse accusations.)

Cuomo’s anti-business attitude has led to an exodus of wealthy individuals and successful businesses from the city and the state, contributing to the current budget shortfall.

So when Amazon opted out of its project after opposition from far-left activists in New York City including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cuomo suddenly had a moment of clarity and panicked since he had a big budget hole to deal with.

He then did everything in his power to persuade Amazon to come back to the city. Cuomo and civic and business leaders even took out a full-page ad in The New York Times seeking to persuade Amazon to reconsider.

In short, Cuomo sounded for once like a conservative who finally realized the truth – that prosperous businesses and individuals have wealth that is good for the state and the city. And that if they depart and take their wealth with them, that that is a bad thing. Duh…!!

But does not expect Amazon to come back. Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, who is a left-wing mega-billionaire and the richest man in the world, knows exactly what kind of people opposed him and knows that the same forces would come back to haunt him if he opted back in. In short, Bezos did not get that rich by being that dumb.

So, friends, there are always new avenues of hope for our conservative cause. In fact liberal states like Vermont, Maryland and Massachusetts now have Republican governors who all were recently re-elected.

On the other hand a radical ‘green’ Democrat governor named Jay Inslee of Washington state isn’t moderating his stance at all. He recently announced that he will run for president in 2020 and that his entire candidacy would be built on fighting so-called “climate change” (yawn…).

Will Inslee see the conservative light and abandon his “global warming” crusade?

Not a chance. Yet there is a big difference between “climate change” and a fiscal deficit or a high-speed train project that runs over budget. And it is this:

You can measure a budget deficit or a train project in dollars and cents. On the other hand “climate change” is only a vague, unproven and apocalyptic theory and thus the threats to the earth and the “price tag” put on ‘climate change’ or ‘global warming’ are thus theoretical and always presented in the extreme.

Meanwhile the same ‘greenies’ never talk about all of the good things that would result if the planet experiences ‘global warming’ like longer growing seasons, more abundant food crops, more trees, lower costs for heating, lower costs for plowing and sanding the roads, fewer injuries from slipping and falling, fewer winter-time car accidents (like the recent 131-car pileup in Wisconsin), etc.

And here is a story to illuminate just how insane this “climate change” nonsense has become: was recently helping a lady friend after one of our New England snowstorms. It rained heavily after the storm and a few inches of water had accumulated in her driveway and garage as a result, which is very common under such circumstances. And she blamed the water on, get this, “climate change”!

Amazing… just unreal…

Has Supreme Court Chief Justice Gone Liberal?

John Roberts is the chief justice of the Supreme Court who was appointed by Republican president George W. Bush in 2005. He has generally been a solid conservative, but that came under question after he ruled in favor of Obamacare in 2012.

Along with some recent rulings, we may therefore question the whole narrative that the elevation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court finally has produced a guaranteed “conservative majority”.

After the Obamacare vote, asked “Is John Roberts a stealth liberal?” And the answer appears to be Yes. Fox News reported recently:

Chief Justice John Roberts’ recent votes aligning with the Supreme Court’s liberal wing have raised questions about whether a widely anticipated “conservative revolution” on the nation’s highest court will materialize anytime soon.

On Wednesday, Roberts sided with a 5-3 majority decision to send a case concerning a death row inmate back to a lower court. In February, Roberts was the key vote in temporarily blocking a Louisiana law that would have placed restrictions on abortion clinics.

And in December, Roberts voted to block president Trump from rejecting asylum to any immigrants who had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border illegally.

The controversial nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to succeed Justice Anthony Kennedy was widely expected to be the beginning of a more rightward shift for the court. But Roberts’ recent voting pattern seems to indicate otherwise.

Yes, friends, we conservatives may have gotten screwed again, this time by Bush. But if you understand who Bush is then you understand the story; he is a liberal and a globalist. He was disturbingly clueless when the 9/11 attacks hit; he got us involved in the disastrous Iraq War; he left our southern border open to illegal immigration; the economic collapse of 2008 happened after almost 8 years of the Bush presidency; and he gave us John Roberts.

We conservatives have been burned on the Supreme Court over and over. Conservative Republican president Ronald Reagan appointed two justices who were not conservative: Sandra Day O’Connor turned out to be a moderate, and Anthony Kennedy was famously a “swing” vote. Kennedy is the vote that allowed gay marriage to be legalized nationwide.

Republican George HW Bush, who was president from 1989 to 1993, appointed the worst turncoat of all, justice David Souter, who voted straight liberal most of the time. And today we have Roberts.

On the other hand justices appointed by Democrats never become “swing” votes or moderate their tones; they vote left-wing all the time. Oh, sure, they vote with conservatives on minor issues but never on ‘big’ issues like gay marriage or labor unions.

There is conjecture that Roberts has turned liberal because he is being threatened by people within the government. Here is the story:

Roberts and his wife adopted two children from Ireland. It is being whispered that he did not necessarily follow all the rules of adoption and that some people within the government are threatening the legality of the adoption if he does not vote liberal.

This sounds like a conspiracy theory but then again who would have thought just three years ago that the FBI and Justice Department and dozens of Deep State actors would have launched a full-fledged effort to undermine the Trump presidency.
