What were the forces behind the British riots in the Summer of 2011? Remember the riots that went on for days in which many businesses were looted and burned and whole blocks went up in flames?
Answer: England has gone to the extreme left. British culture is controlled by degenerate socialism.
Because the liberal mantra is that poverty must be ameliorated by the government. Yet today liberal policies in fact have created a much bigger, less accountable and more virulent underclass. By subsidizing it, you build it up.
Isn’t that why liberals always wish to slash military spending – to make the military smaller? So wouldn’t reducing subsidies for the dependent welfare state in fact make it smaller as well?
Of course it would.
So indeed the UK and the US too have gone to the extreme. The ever-growing welfare state has encouraged single motherhood, sloth, apathy, ignorance and idleness which produce more of each. By being comfortable on the dole more and more poor people refuse to improve themselves. There is no incentive to do so.
And when people are idle they can and will cause trouble. Many of the British looters, rioters and burners were spurred on by a sense of the excitement of the riots as an antidote to their pointless welfare-state lives. After all, as the old adage goes, “Idle hands are the devil’s workshop…”
Lavistachurchofchrist.org reports:
There is a set of English proverbs that are worded similarly:
Idle hands are the devil's workshop
Idle hands are the devil's tools ("Collections" 1808)
Idle brains are the devil's workhouses (T. Fuller 1732)
An idle brain is the devil's workshop (H. G. Bohn, "Hand-Book of Proverbs," 1855)
If the Devil finds a Man idle, he'll set him at work (J. Kelly, "Scottish Proverbs," 1721)
The devil finds work (or mischief) for idle hands to do
There are many variations, but they all follow the same theme: A person who doesn't have something particular to occupy himself with doing will be tempted to occupy himself with sin. The phrasing is not found in the Bible, but like many "chimney corner scriptures" it has its roots in a scriptural idea.
Idleness means you have not particular goal in mind and thus you can be easily distracted. Warning is given about supporting young widows from the church's funds because (it) leaves the woman with little to do. "And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not" (I Timothy 5:13). For this same cause, all Christians are commanded to work. "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: If anyone will not work, neither shall he eat. For we hear that there are some who walk among you in a disorderly manner, not working at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are such we command and exhort through our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread" (II Thessalonians 3:10-12)
Notice even the warning about the church supporting young widows. Very interesting. Because even good Christians – or particularly good Christians – know the truth about human nature.
How about jobs to keep the British underclass occupied and perhaps even, heaven forbid, earning some money?
No, the welfare state thinks that “work” is a dirty word for ‘the poor’, that those deprived people have suffered enough.
Baloney… Work would be the best thing for them.
Unfortunately jobs are scarcer and unemployment is higher in places like Britain as more and more money is spent by the government on the welfare state. Because that money is being drawn out of the wealth-creating and job-creating private sector. It happens every time a welfare state is created.
And consider the mantra from the left – that if you don’t subsidize the poor, they will get angry and break things. But in fact the opposite is true; all these subsidized poor people with too much time on their hands are the ones likely to start trouble.
Another extreme exposed by the British riots was the stunning unwillingness of the police to step in with force to stop the rioters. Because after all Britain is a “peaceful” nation. The unarmed bobbies were utterly ineffective. They watched while whole blocks burned.
So Britain’s powerful Labour party left generically advocates “peace” unless its own citizens are doing the dirty work. And then Labour government pacifism allows the violence to continue for days at a time.
This is insanity.
In Norway in Summer 2011 Anders Behring Breivik gunned down 68 young people at a Labour party summer camp. Breivik, who acted out of political anger, never expected to have so much free reign to kill so many people. The reason he was able to get away with it is summarized in the following paragraph from Associated Press about the Norway shootings:
When Anders Behring Breivik launched his assault on the youth campers of Utoya Island, he expected Norway's special forces to swoop down and stop him at any minute.
Instead, Delta Force police officers made the 25-mile journey by car — they have no helicopter — then had to be rescued by a civilian craft when their boat broke down as it tried to navigate a one-minute hop to the island.
It took police more than 90 minutes to reach the gunman, who by then had mortally wounded 68 people. Breivik immediately dropped his guns and surrendered, having exceeded his wildest murderous expectations.
So Britain, and Norway too, seem to have lots of money for their welfare states but not much money or power for the police or for private-sector job creation. America is going the same way. Have you noticed how many police departments are being cut back in this economic crisis while welfare handouts are continuing unabated?
And policies like this will destroy us eventually. This is real leftist extremism.
What else spurred on the British rioters?
Class envy, of course, planted by the Labour party like Obama’s incessant call for “the rich” to pay more in taxes because they “aren’t paying enough”. Because even though many of the rioters get substantial government handouts and live surprisingly well while doing nothing, they still are angry at “the rich”. Because this is what the Labour party and the Democrat party in America tell them: Be angry…
So again you have the extremes. Ignorant, lazy poor people with every possible handout angry at rich people who are generally smart and hard working. This is classic socialism/communism.
In Britain amorality and immorality also rule among lower classes. Many are uneducated or poorly educated and come from broken homes. The Christian faith is ignored and ridiculed. The welfare state encourages single mothers to go it alone rather than marrying the father of their children. This causes myriad problems among the mothers and their children including poverty and crime.
Then when the bad behavior of the child – or even the parent – is called out the extremists on the left always defend the worst kind of behavior calling it ‘society’s problem’ and not what it really is today; the handiwork of the welfare state.
Wrote Max Hastings on dailymail.co.uk
'Anyone who reproaches a child, far less an adult, for discarding rubbish, making a racket, committing vandalism or driving unsociably will receive in return a torrent of obscenities, if not violence.
So who is to blame? The breakdown of families, the pernicious promotion of single motherhood as a desirable state, the decline of domestic life so that even shared meals are a rarity, have all contributed importantly to the condition of the young underclass.
The social engineering industry unites to claim that the conventional template of family life is no longer valid.
…The judiciary colludes with social services and infinitely ingenious lawyers to assert the primacy of the rights of the criminal and aggressor over those of law-abiding citizens, especially if a young offender is involved.
The police, in recent years, have developed a reputation for ignoring yobbery and bullying, or even for taking the yobs’ side against complainants.'
Sounds like the Democrat left in America, does it not, always siding reflexively with criminals and ‘the poor’ and never with law-abiding citizens or common sense?
Yet the relentless targets of the Labour left in England are Christians and conservatives with their life-affirming, law-abiding, family-oriented beliefs.
Indeed it is the same as here in the US: Extremists from the left all waiting for an opportunity to light any situation ablaze for political gain and to intimidate good people.
