Mitt Romney has chosen Republican US congressman Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his vice presidential running mate.
This is a good choice. Ryan will fire up the fiscally-conservative Tea Party base of the Republican party since he is the author of a Medicare overhaul plan called Roadmap for America’s Future.
Ryan, 42, has long been considered a rising star in the GOP. He is a native of Janesville, Wisconsin and is serving his seventh term in Congress. He is married and has three children. He was elected in 1998 at age 28 with 57% of the vote. He has consistently trounced his opponents since then.

Ryan also will help Romney to win the crucial electoral state of Wisconsin which has historically been liberal but which has been trending conservative in recent years. Wisconsin is a largely white state, and whites have been fleeing the Democrat party for many years now.
The recent victory of Wisconsin Republican governor Scott Walker by 7 points in a heated recall election shows that Wisconsin indeed is changing. Popular Wisconsin Democrat US senator Russ Feingold, who is very liberal, even lost his seat in the GOP landslide of 2010.
As the vice presidential nominee Ryan is going to offer a strong contrast to the Democrats who have persistently sought to vilify him over his plan to reform Medicare.
Ryan’s candidacy will give Romney/Ryan an opportunity to talk sensibly to the American public about the desperate situation with entitlements that, if not reformed, will suck the life out of the American economy. And a majority of Americans are listening; they want these deficits reduced substantially and they want entitlements controlled.
Good for Ryan. He will debate vice president Joe Biden under the table and will punch hard at Obama’s sinking welfare state. Because Ryan is a real thinker and Biden/Obama are Democrat shills with no ideas for reforming the economy – because they do not want to reform it.
Other details about Ryan, according to foxnews.com:
Ryan worked as a marketing consultant for his family's construction business before being elected to Congress. The company — Ryan Incorporated Central — began as an earthmoving business created by his great-grandfather in 1884. Ryan's hobbies include hunting and fishing. He is a bowhunter and belongs to his hometown's archery association – the Janesville Bowmen. For fun, Ryan noodles catfish, catching them barehanded with a fist down their throats.
Some liberal groups even will use Ryan’s hunting and fishing interests to attack him. They will say that he is cruel to catfish.
The Media Liberals will use every argument to claim that Ryan will hurt Romney and that Romney has peaked in the polls, an acknowledgement that Romney indeed is ahead of Obama. But it is important to remember that the same Media Liberals said at this point in 1980 that Ronald Reagan had no chance of beating Jimmy Carter. Yet Reagan swamped Carter in the November election.
Meanwhile the liberals are doing everything in their power to keep bad economic news out of the public eye. Yet if a Republican president had an economy like Obama’s the media would be declaring that Republican utterly incapable of winning re-election. And they would be running stories every day about misery, poverty, unemployment and homelessness in America.
Have you see many of these stories?
Well, yes. About 1% of the number of such stories that you would be seeing if the president were a Republican.
So don’t believe that Romney/Ryan are in a “tightening race” with Obama. The Democrats have lost virtually every campaign that they possibly could since Obama was elected. Even Obama’s own Illinois US Senate seat fell to Republican Mark Kirk. And the Massachusetts ‘Kennedy seat’ went to Republican Scott Brown.
