Atheist Sounds Strangely Like a Christian

An avowedly atheist magician named Penn Jillette wrote a book called God, No! declaring his belief that there is no God.

Jillette is a magician in Las Vegas (of the duo Penn & Teller) and when asked to give an atheist version of the Ten Commandments he offered the following ten ideas each of which has a Nikitas3.com comment after it.

Notice as you read how many of Jillette’s ideas are very similar to those of the Judeo-Christian tradition, while the rest of his ideas are muddled, contradictory or negative.

In short he never gives us a positive vision that is unique to his belief system while he contends that our Christian faith is nonsensical.

Here is the list:

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #1. “The highest ideals are human intelligence, creativity and love. Respect these above all.” Nikitas3.com comment: Aw, isn’t that sweet. Group hug! But who defines these things? These are vague generalizations. For instance today’s university ‘intelligence’ is nothing but fashionable sophistry and self-serving nonsense like ‘global warming’. And if Jillette thinks, for instance, that a Vegas magic act is genuine creativity then he is ignorant. Meanwhile that ‘love of your fellow man’… isn’t that what Christianity encourages? Isn’t Jillette just taking this from the Bible? Doesn’t the Bible encourage not only love of your neighbor but of your enemies too? (Yes.)

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #2. “Do not put things or even ideas above other human beings. (Let's scream at each other about Kindle versus iPad, solar versus nuclear, Republican versus Libertarian, Garth Brooks versus Sun Ra — but when your house is on fire, I'll be there to help.)” Nikitas3.com comment: Gee, where was Jillette to help put out the arson fire at Sarah Palin’s church after a Palin-hater attacked it. You know, somebody who is almost certainly an atheist/leftist like Jillette (and who has never been apprehended). And what is this malarkey about “do not put things or even ideas above other human beings”. Is this not precisely what atheist socialism does every day – imposing government ideas on people that they do not want, like steep taxes and ObamaCare and now government discrimination against Christians in the military and in public schools?

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #3. “Say what you mean, even when talking to yourself. (What used to be an oath to (G)od is now quite simply respecting yourself.)” Nikitas3.com comment: Woah! Watch out for this stuff. Remember that atheists say only what serves their purpose and they deceive with impunity, which God forbids. And thus they reject God. And thus “say what you mean” does not mean “say the truth”. Beware of this extremely devious secular doubletalk. And expect atheists to ignore it anyway.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #4. “Put aside some time to rest and think. (If you're religious, that might be the Sabbath; if you're a Vegas magician, that'll be the day with the lowest grosses.)” Nikitas3.com comment: Yes, as the Bible says in Exodus 20:8-11, ‘Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.’ Could Jillette possibly have gotten atheist commandment #4 from the Bible? Answer: Yes. He is at heart a very UNoriginal person, which is typical of atheists. Then he thinks surprisingly like a Christian but claims otherwise, so he is a hypocrite too.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #5. “Be there for your family. Love your parents, your partner, and your children. (Love is deeper than honor, and parents matter, but so do spouse and children.)” Nikitas3.com comment: Isn’t that one of the Ten Commandments: ‘Honor thy mother and thy father’? Does ‘love your children’ include those not yet born, as Christianity urges? Or is Jillette being selective in his love for children?

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #6. “Respect and protect all human life. (Many believe that "Thou shalt not kill" only refers to people in the same tribe. I say it's all human life.)” Nikitas3.com comment: One of the core tenets of atheism is unfettered access to abortion. So what’s up with abortion, Mr. Jillette? Do you support abortion or not? Is an unborn child “human life” from conception? And if he/she is not “human life” then why must he/she be purposely killed in an abortion in order to free the mother from the responsibility of that child? Meanwhile the greatest genocidal killers of all time – Hitler, Stalin and Mao Tse Tung, with more than 100 million murdered by their governments combined – were all committed atheists, occultists and anti-Christians.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #7. “Keep your promises. (If you can't be sexually exclusive to your spouse, don't make that deal.)” Nikitas3.com comment: Look at how this guy thinks. The first thing that comes to his mind when he is talking about the social foundation of honesty is… adultery. This is a very shallow person. This is why we warn about these people over and over. He is like the liberals who, when talking about freedom of speech, do not use the example of an aggrieved citizen speaking his mind against an oppressive government but instead defend pornography or cursing as free expression.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #8. “Don't steal. (This includes magic tricks and jokes — you know who you are!)”  Nikitas3.com comment: Again, this comes straight from the original Ten Commandments – ‘Thou shalt not steal’. Doesn’t it sound like Jillette’s really a closet Christian or actually admires what Judeo/Christians codified thousands of years ago?

Fact is that if Jillette put up his commandments in a public park his atheist friends would seek to take them down because they are so much like the Judeo/Christian Ten Commandments.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #9. “Don't lie. (You know, unless you're doing magic tricks and it's part of your job. Does that make it OK for politicians, too?)” Nikitas3.com comment: Lying is a core trait of atheism, like Al Gore and his ‘global warming’ mania or Bill Clinton claiming that he did not have sex with Monica Lewinsky. Here is what the Bible says about honesty in Proverbs 10:2 ‘Wealth you get by dishonesty will do you no good, but honesty will save your life’ The Ninth Commandment says: ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour’. So Penn, how about church on Sunday? I’ll drive. Because you are saying some very Christian things but you aren’t totally clear yet about what you believe. I can help you.

Jillette says: Atheist commandment #10. “Don't waste too much time wishing, hoping, and being envious; it'll make you bugnutty.” Nikitas3.com comment: Wishing, hoping and being envious are things that liberals do every day. One of the crucial manipulations of atheist socialism is the most powerful emotion of all – envy (i.e., I hate rich people because they have more than I do). Meanwhile we genuine Christians live our lives not being envious but “counting our blessings” and being happy for what we have, not angry over what we don’t have.

Here are the opening lyrics from the Christian hymn ‘When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed’… lyrics by Johnson Oatman  Jr. (1856-1926) and music by Edward Othello Excell (1851-1921).

When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Meanwhile the Tenth Commandment says about envy: ’Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.’

To put it bluntly Penn Jillette is a classic atheist who is uncreative and who steals ideas and presents them as his own. Worst of all he steals directly from Christianity which he then maligns.

But in the big picture, this is a very good sign. Because it proves once again that we Christians are right, right, right and that nobody can escape us and our beliefs and above all our God.

And just for good measure here are the actual Ten Commandments:

And God spoke all these words:

“I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

“You shall have no other gods before me.

“You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.

 “You shall not murder.

 “You shall not commit adultery.

 “You shall not steal.

“You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
