Nikitas3.com and most conservatives have long been extremely critical of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We not only have seen it as an overbearing government agency that is placing grossly excessive demands on our economy, but now EPA itself is being blamed for a major spill of millions of gallons of toxic sludge into a Colorado river on August 5. Reported Foxnews.com:
An 80-mile length of mustard-colored water — laden with arsenic, lead, copper, aluminum and cadmium — is working its way south toward New Mexico and Utah, following Wednesday’s accidental release from the Gold King Mine, near Durango, when an EPA cleanup crew destabilized a dam of loose rock lodged in the mine. The crew was supposed to pump out and decontaminate the sludge, but instead released it into tiny Cement Creek. From there, it flowed into the Animas River and made its way into larger tributaries, including the San Juan and Colorado rivers. (end of Foxnews.com excerpt)
EPA Region 8 administrator Shaun McGrath said that there is the possibility of long-term damage from toxic metals. But what is the real truth? Is this really as bad as it is being portrayed? After all, the news media are hysterical about it.
Nikitas3.com believes not. After all environmentalists and their media cronies always exaggerate and cry wolf about danger to the environment. They have exceedingly exaggerated the perils of nuclear radiation, dioxin, coal, natural gas, oil, ‘fracking’, asbestos and every other thing that they don’t like. They have fabricated the “global warming” crisis and every other type of frenzy.
That has been the template of environmentalism from the start. At the Three Mile Island nuclear accident in Pennsylvania in 1979 the media panic lasted for months and even years, yet not a single person was harmed. And nobody has been harmed by the Fukushima accident in Japan.
Nikitas3.com believes that this Colorado river spill will cause some ecological problems, but that it will eventually clear itself up naturally and pose no long-term danger to the river. After all these “toxic” metals exist naturally in the earth.
So why not fire all of the EPA employees involved in this fiasco, as they would be fired by a private company?
Answer: They are unionized federal employees and firing them is virtually impossible. Nikitas3.com expects that they will get their regular promotions and raises and big pensions. They will bear no responsibility for the spill. Because EPA is a secretive federal agency with little or no accountability to the public good.
But isn’t EPA supposed to be protecting us? Answer: Yes, but it is not. EPA is a rogue government agency that today is promulgating some of the most extreme types of regulations that are seeking to control every aspect of our lives, even down to seasonal livestock ponds on farms in rural America. This agency should be shut down and reconstituted. Its rules should all be re-written.
The bigger question is: Are environmentalists themselves really protecting us?
Answer: No. They are not only harming our economy badly, but they are harming the environment too. For instance, the United States today is burning about 1.1 BILLION tons of coal annually in power plants to generate electricity. This causes great environmental damage.
This is completely unnecessary. These should all be nuclear power plants, except that the ecologists have stopped nuclear power (two new reactors are now being built in Georgia, the first in decades. Let’s hope that this is a trend). Yet the hysteria over nuclear power is like the ‘green’ hysteria over everything. It is immensely exaggerated.
The burning of 1.1 billion tons of coal every year does vastly more environmental damage than one river spill in Colorado. But environmentalists don’t want you to know this. Because they are the reason that we are burning all of this coal.
Then we must consider the overall issue of the environment. These ecologists claim that our lifestyle is killing planet earth with pollution. Yet in our daily travels we see a very clean environment in America, and in Europe and in other advanced nations. We see clean air and water, and peaceful towns and cities, and many Americans and Europeans living in relative prosperity, all a result of modern technology.
But environmentalists claim that this technology is bad for us, and dangerous. And they point to problems here and there, like the Colorado river spill, while ignoring the bigger picture, which is positive. In fact we are all living longer and healthier lives than ever in history.
Then it is important to remember that the worst polluter on earth is China. But since environmentalists are on the political left along with the communist government of China, environmentalists say virtually nothing about pollution in China.
In short, most environmentalists are not really interested in the natural environment. They are interested in advocating a left-wing political agenda because environmentalism really means government control of the economy. In fact many environmentalists are simply political activists who are interested in the jobs, wealth and political power that the “green” movement supplies, all with government-mandated laws and money.
For instance, if you sell or install solar panels, you have it easy. The taxpayer is forced to subsidize every panel, and you, the seller or installer, make easy money off of government-forced action. It is virtually a government job. Here are more questions about environmentalism:
*How about recycling? Isn’t that good for the environment? Answer: No, recycling is doing great harm to the environment. First, recycling is an inefficient, cumbersome and expensive process that wastes huge amounts of energy, money, fuel, labor and time. Second, the same environmentalists who promote recycling then oppose the burning of all garbage, including paper, cardboard and plastic that now must be recycled.
This ban on burning leads to the creation of more and more dirty, smelly landfills. Yet we could dispose of all garbage, eliminate virtually all new landfills, and produce vast amounts of electricity using garbage as a fuel… if only environmentalists would allow it. It is done all over Europe. If you don’t know how it works, look it up on the internet.
*Aren’t public mass transit systems like Amtrak good for the environment? After all, environmentalists favor them. Answer: No, Amtrak is a wasteful and expensive system. Cars, buses and planes are much more efficient for moving people.
*Isn’t “organic” food good for us and for the environment? These environmentalists seem to think so. Answer: No, “organic” farming uses more land, labor and water than other types of agriculture and produces much smaller amounts of food. Therefore it is bad for the environment.
*Don’t environmentalists themselves practice good ecologically-sound lifestyles? Answer: No. They consume vast quantities of energy, and create large amounts of air pollution when they go backpacking in Alaska, birdwatching in South America, or even to frolick in a faraway river or on a favorite mountain. Millions of them travel constantly.
*Then look at how environmentalists want to blanket the country with windmills and solar panels. This will destroy the natural environment like nothing else.
