SPECIAL: Only Vigilance Insures Order, Liberty and Peace

When 9/11 rolls around each year Nikitas3.com thinks more about national security. I usually write a 9/11 editorial about security, but this year I did not. However now that I have thought a little longer I have something to say about September 11 that is pertinent any day of the year, and to our national security in general. This will now become my annual 9/11 editorial, belatedly in 2015. So here it is:

I have written over and over that 9/11 never should have happened, that it was a total failure of our national intelligence and vigilance, that it could have been prevented at many points in time, and that those who died perished over failed policies, and nothing more and nothing less.

At the bottom of this commentary are excerpts about the 9/11 hijackers of Flight 77, the one that crashed into the Pentagon. This flight has received much less attention that the others, but there are very disturbing facts revealed in these excerpts from Wikipedia.org and nbcnews.com that add more fuel to the debate about that day.

Nikitas3.com did not know these facts until recently, but they fit the overall pattern – that those nineteen 9/11 hijackers were ringing alarm bells all over, right up until they boarded their fateful flights, and nothing was done. It is shameful, tragic and even criminal.

This is part of a pattern. What we see repeatedly in America today, even in simple criminal cases, is that law enforcement officials often know well, or should know well, about criminals and terrorists but do nothing about them. For instance, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, who bombed the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, was known to national and international intel officials and even had been interviewed over his travels to a Muslim terror enclave in Russia.

Still he was able to build two pressure-cooker bombs in his apartment just blocks from Harvard University and then waltz into the marathon crowd with a huge backpack under the noses of hundreds of Boston police. Why wasn’t this Muslim male in his 20s pulled aside and questioned about the unusually large backpack?

Answer: Because the ultra-liberal Boston police didn’t want to “profile” a Muslim-looking male. After all, they were probably focusing on arresting a white male Tea Partier distributing copies of the US Constitution.

Consider the Columbine High School killers of 1999. The local police in Colorado had been warned that one of these murderers had made death threats on the internet against a fellow student but did nothing about it.

This laxity all comes after decades of emasculation of our law enforcement officials, and the imposition of radical political correctness under which we are not supposed to be “judgmental” about people’s behavior, like the maniac Cho Seung-Hui, who shot up Virginia Tech in April 2007. He was known as a campus lunatic, but on the ultra-liberal ‘gun free’ campus, nobody acted against Hui. After all Hui might have been offended and hurt that he was considered crazy and capable of doing something really bad, like murdering 32 people. With a gun.

Democrats have for the last 50 years encouraged a culture of softness toward crime and terrorism, along with a hatred for strong law enforcement, and for our military. They have consistently spoken for or covered for the worst kinds of people (like illegal immigrant murderers and rapists) including our enemies, for instance saying for decades that the Soviet communists really were not all that bad.

Look at how ACLU and other leftist groups insistently find small technicalities on which to exonerate criminals. It is, again, shameful. These groups also have done everything possible to defend the Gitmo terrorists, including the former law firm of the former attorney general Eric Holder.

That is why crime spiked after the 1960s when we all were told by hard leftists and the ‘hippies’ that “peace & love” is what we really wanted. Except that the criminals never joined in on the peace & love. No, they saw it as an opportunity to make hay, just as criminals and terrorists always sense weakness. Meanwhile, the Soviet Union was deeply involved in the spread of ‘hippie’ pacifism in the US, and a destructive drug culture in the 1960s and beyond.

Nikitas3.com has pointed out for years now that the lax atmosphere around terrorism in the 1990s under US president Bill Clinton led directly to 9/11. After the first attack on the World Trade Center on February 26, 1993, just one month into the new Clinton administration, in which a truck bomb was detonated in the parking garage under the North Tower, killing 6 and injuring 300, Clinton treated the bombing not as a terrorist attack but as a criminal matter.

It was resolved with civilian trials, not terrorism trials, and after the attack terrorism was not elevated as a national concern by Clinton. That is how the 9/11 hijackers were able to organize the September 11, 2001 attacks throughout the late 1990s during Clinton’s second term – by slipping in and out of the US on shabby and incomplete visas; by overstaying their visas; by taking flying lessons; by taking repeated reconnaissance passenger flights to observe airline practices; by training on airliner simulators; by repeatedly getting cash wired from overseas; by moving freely about the country and escaping scrutiny repeatedly even though these young Muslim males were ringing alarm bells loud and clear.

For instance, when several of the 9/11 hijackers were reported as disagreeable, suspicious Middle Eastern males in their 20s taking flying lessons in Arizona, FBI higher-ups declined to act. This comes out of decades of Democrat party political correctness in which you cannot ‘profile’ anyone as possibly being a terrorist simply because they are young Muslim males who act suspiciously and come from the Middle East.

On the day of September 11 itself a ticket agent at the airport in Portland, Maine, where World Trade Center hijacker Mohammed Atta boarded his first flight of the day, said that he knew by looking at him that Atta was up to evil. But the agent did nothing. After all, under politically-correct multiculturalism this agent would not be allowed to act on his suspicions or he might lose his job. Instead more than 3,000 Americans lost their lives.

Less than one month before 9/11 FBI officials declined to legally authorize the scrutiny of the computer of Zacharias Moussaoui, who had been taken into custody in Minneapolis on an immigration violation. Moussaoui was believed to have had evil intentions, possibly to even have been tied to a big plot like the 9/11 hijackers. Here are two disturbing excerpts from Wikipedia.org about Moussaoui’s past and his capture:

French authorities began monitoring Moussaoui in 1996 when they observed him with Islamic extremists in London. In 1998, he attended the Khalden training camp in Afghanistan, allegedly returning the next year as well. In September 2000, he visited Malaysia and stayed in a condominium owned by Yazid Sufaat who, in October 2000, signed letters identifying Moussaoui as a representative of his company. Two of the September 11 hijackers lived in the same condominium in January 2000. Jemaah Islamiah leader Riduan Ismauddin sent cohort Yazid Sufaat to provide Moussaoui with $35,000 USD and travel documents in Malaysia in October.

…On August 16, 2001, Moussaoui was arrested by Harry Samit of the FBI and INS agents in Minnesota and charged with an immigration violation. Materials itemized when he was arrested included a laptop computer, two knives, flight manuals pertaining to Boeing’s 747 aircraft, a flight simulator computer program, fighting gloves and shin guards, and a computer disk with information about crop dusting.

Some agents worried that his flight training had violent intentions, so the Minnesota bureau tried to get permission (sending over 70 emails in a week) to search his laptop, but they were turned down. FBI agent Colleen Rowley made an explicit request for permission to search Moussaoui’s personal rooms. This request was first denied by her superior, Deputy General Counsel Marion “Spike” Bowman, and later rejected based upon FISA regulations (amended after 9/11 by the USA Patriot Act). Several further search attempts similarly failed.

OK, so why did FBI not know about Moussaoui’s past in London, Afghanistan and elsewhere, or be interested in his flight manual, simulator program and crop dusting? Why did FBI ignore earlier reports that Moussaoui was taking airliner simulator lessons and asking weird questions about flying around New York City?

Answer: Because first the Clinton administration in 1995 intentionally cemented the ‘wall’ between CIA (international intel) and FBI (domestic intel) such that they could not exchange information about terrorism and “connect the dots” that made up the horrible picture of 9/11. Second, FBI was guilty of pure, unadulterated negligence which came after the Clinton years in which terrorism was not considered a threat.

Friends, we can stop terrorism and crime if we really want to by being vigilant. Yet some people just don’t seem to want to. They are called Democrats and leftists.

This is the type of laxity that has harmed and destroyed nations over and over, for thousands of years, even in agencies we once trusted like FBI and CIA. But then again this corruption comes right down from the White House and the US Senate. Remember that Democrats obsessively have impugned and maligned our police and our intel agencies over several decades starting with the ‘hippies’ of the 1960s and the US Senate Church Committee in the 1970s run by Democrat senator Frank Church of Idaho.

(If you want to see a video about a genuine 9/11 hero watch The Man Who Predicted 9/11 on YouTube. It is about Rick Rescorla, born British, who became an American citizen, fought in Vietnam, and then later became a security consultant for Morgan Stanley in the World Trade Center. He warned repeatedly about an attack by airliners and forced the Morgan Stanley staff into regular escape drills. That is why almost all of Morgan Stanley’s employees got out alive on 9/11, while Rescorla died making sure that everyone was safe.)

Meanwhile it is Bill Clinton himself who has been the biggest perpetrator of greed and malice, both political and financial. As recently as September 15, 2015 Foxnews.com reported:

An aide to Bill Clinton asked the State Department in 2012 about the former president potentially delivering a paid speech to an Iranian government-tied group that has pushed for an end to all U.S. sanctions against (Iran) … The email from the former president’s office was sent on June 4, 2012, from an aide to Bill Clinton to three aides for then-Secretary (of State Hillary Clinton), … as well as State Department chief of staff Cheryl Mills. It concerned an event in the U.S. hosted by the National Iranian American Council. “Would USG have any concerns about (Bill Clinton) doing a paid speech for [the] National Iranian American Council (‘NIAC’)?” Ami Desai, an aide to the former president, wrote. “We have been approached by the National Iranian American Council (‘NIAC’) for President Clinton to speak at a fundraising gala they are putting on.”

In other words nothing is above the avarice of Bill Clinton, even his propensity for treating our sworn enemies like they are just friendly cash cows for his enrichment, just as Obama has eagerly cut a nuclear deal with Iran, and treats Cuba like an old friend.

This directly follows on the 1960s leftist apology for Soviet communism and is called “selling out your own country to the highest bidder, even when that bidder is the mortal enemy”. This is how our intelligence agencies have been weakened by pacifism and political correctness that ends in corruption, death and collapsing skyscrapers. It starts at the top.

Just look at Obama’s Middle East policy which has always favored Muslim interests over American interests. For instance Obama pulled US troops out of Iraq at the end of 2011, throwing away our hard-fought victory there. Then he left our troops in Afghanistan until the end of 2014 in a war that we cannot win.

In short Obama did the reverse of what would have been best for America, just as president Jimmy Carter abandoned the pro-American Shah of Iran in 1979, leaving that nation open to takeover by radical Islamists who for more than 30 years have been conducting a state-sponsored terror war against the US, Europe and the whole world.

This is all happening because courageous, patriotic, strong and rational leaders who would understand our enemies and defend us from harm have for decades now been marginalized, slandered and eased out, or thrown out, of positions of influence. Often they have been replaced by clueless feminists like Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power and Susan Rice and others on the political left. This leads to American slackness, chaos and decay, which is the main goal of the socialist/communist left in the US and around the world, and also now of the Islamic religious right.

Now here are the excerpts from Wikipedia.org, and then nbcnews.com about the Flight 77 hijackers. These are facts that I did not know. They are very troubling as are the facts surrounding all of 9/11. Wikipedia.org reports:

The hijackers on American Airlines Flight 77 were led by Hani Hanjour, who piloted the aircraft into the Pentagon. Hanjour first came to the United States in 1990. Hanjour trained at the CRM Airline Training Center in Scottsdale, Arizona earning his FAA commercial pilot’s certificate in April 1999. …Hanjour likely went to Afghanistan, where Al-Qaeda recruits were screened for special skills they might have. Already having selected the Hamburg cell members, Al Qaeda leaders selected Hanjour to lead the fourth team of hijackers.

Alec Station, the CIA’s unit dedicated to tracking Osama bin Laden, had discovered that two of the other hijackers, al-Hazmi and al-Mihdhar, had multiple-entry visas to the United States well before 9/11. Two FBI agents inside the unit tried to alert FBI headquarters, but CIA officers rebuffed them.

…U.S. law enforcement officials said that the data about (four other suspicious men) was “just one of many leads that were thoroughly investigated at the time and never led to terrorism charges”. An official added that the three Qatari citizens have never been questioned by the FBI. Eleanor Hill, the former staff director for the congressional joint inquiry on the September 11 attacks, said the cable reinforces questions about the thoroughness of the FBI’s investigation. She also said that the inquiry concluded that the hijackers had a support network that helped them in different ways.

Why was that support network never investigated? Answer: Because Bill Clinton had been president for 8 years and ignored terrorism. Clinton then gave the incoming Bush administration little or no information about terrorism when Bush took office in January 2001, when Clinton should have provided a library-full. To his credit Bush began ramping up terrorism vigilance as soon as he took office but it was too late. The wheels had been turning for years and the inertia was strong. Nbcnews.com reported on July 22, 2004:

Security screeners at Washington Dulles International Airport who allowed some hijackers to board (Flight 77) that crashed into the Pentagon on Sept. 11, 2001, drew criticism Thursday from the commission investigating the terror attacks. A surveillance video obtained by news organizations on Wednesday showed that security screeners did not appear to question the hijackers about utility knives, which investigators believe they were carrying as part of the takeover plot.

The 9/11 commission report cited one expert describing efforts by airport screeners as “marginal at best,” and said hijackers who set off metal detector alarms shouldn’t have been permitted to proceed until the suspicious items were found.

…The video also shows an airport screener hand-checking the baggage of one hijacker, Nawaf al-Hazmi, for traces of explosives before letting him continue onto the plane with his brother, Salem, a fellow hijacker. Al-Hazmi had been added to a U.S. government terrorism watch list just weeks earlier. Thursday’s commission report said the al-Hazmi brothers were flagged for additional scrutiny because one of them could not understand English, and “because the agent found both of the passengers to be suspicious.” …(Flight 77 hijackers) Al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi had been known to be associated with al-Qaida since early 1999 by the National Security Agency, and were put on a terrorism watch list on Aug. 24, 2001.

Only Hani Hanjour, believed to have been the hijacker who piloted Flight 77, passed through Dulles security that morning without being subjected to a secondary security check, according to the video.

…The video was obtained from the Motley Rice law firm, which is representing some victims’ families suing the airlines and security industry over their actions in the Sept. 11 attacks. “Even after setting off these alarms, the airlines and security screeners failed to examine the hijackers’ baggage, as required by federal regulations and industry-mandated standards, or discover the weapons they would use in their attack,” lawyer Ron Motley said.

Elaine Teague, who is suing over the death of her 31-year-old daughter, Sandra, said … she was surprised at how relaxed security was, given that airlines had received three warnings from the Federal Aviation Administration. One such warning, issued in June 2001, cited “unconfirmed reports that American interests may be the target of a terrorist threat from extremist groups.”

Stunning, isn’t it. This stuff is absolutely everywhere about 9/11. Because when the federal government is lax on terrorism, it filters down and negligence spreads. And we all pay the price, some vastly more than others.
